Have you heard of nutritious sweet dishes? Sher Besan Halwa is one of such food items. It is enriched by proteins and good fats to fulfill energy requirements with the added benefit of being a festive food.


  • Sher Besan (Gram flour) 2 cups
  • Ghee 3/4 cup
  • Sooji (Semolina) 1/4 cup
  • Cardamom powder 1 teaspoon
  • Caster Sugar 3/4 cup
  • Water 1/2 cup
  • Dry Fruits (sliced) for garnishing
  • Khoya 1/2 cup


  • Melt ghee on low flame and add sifted Sher Besan in the pan. Mix well.
  • Keeping the flame low, fry for 10 12minutes and stir continuously until fragrant. The besan should be golden-yellow at this point.
  • Add semolina powder, mix well, and cook for another 5-7 minutes.
  • Add caster sugar, mix well, and continue stirring on low flame.
  • Add water, mix well, and cook until water evaporates completely.
  • Add dry fruits and mix well.
  • Add khoya and mix well.
  • Garnish with khoya, dry fruits , and serve hot.
  • Add dry fruits and mix well.
  • Grease a dish with ghee.
  • Pour the barfi mixture, tap the pan for removing any trapped air, sprinkle dry fruits on top.
  • Let it cool then cut into pieces.


  • Sift the gram flour and semolina powder for smooth texture.
  • Stir continuously on low flame, the color and fragrance of besan is a good indication of how much roasting is needed. Don’t let the besan get brownish.
